What's the benefit of a blind search receiver? / What is Blind Search & Smart Scan?

All the satellite channels are being broadcasted via transponders.  Each transponder carries a certain amount of TV and Radio Channels.  In order for a normal receiver to be able to scan the channels from a satellite, it must have the transponder programmed into the receiver.  Each transponder has 4 specifications and characteristics.

1.  Frequency

2.  Symbol Rate

3.  Polarity

4.  Forward Error Correction (FEC)

In most receivers the FEC is automatically set by the receiver, so you don't have to worry about inputting that in the receiver.  You do however need to input the Frequency, Symbol Rate, & Polarization.  Then you can scan the transponder for the channels.

In case of a blind search / blind scan receiver / smart scan, the receiver will search the satellite and automatically find the frequency, symbol rate, polarity and FEC.  Therefore, you will always have the latest channels that are being broadcasted off of the satellite.  Once new transponders are available, or existing transponders change frequencies, all you do is just scan your satellite receiver.  The receiver will re-program itself with all the up to date transponder frequency, symbol rate, polarity, FEC and most important, the NEW TV stations!!!!

So the choice is simple.  Get a blind search DVB FTA satellite receiver and always be up to date with all the FTA channels that are broadcasted from the Various satellites.

Tech Tip To Reset Receiver Back from PAL to NTSC

If your picture is rolling and/or black and white, you've probably put your receiver in PAL mode.
Here's what you should do:
  1. Turn the power of the receiver off using the switch on the back.
  2. Turn the power on.
  3. Press the "Menu" key.
  4. Press the left arrow key two times.
  5. Press the down arrow key one time.
  6. Press "OK/Enter" one time.
  7. Press the left arrow key until TV type says NTSC and your picture is normal.

FAQ about installing multiple receivers on 1 dish or multiple TV's on 1 receiver:

Q: I want to install 2 receivers.  What type of splitter do I need?

A: A satellite signal can not be split before it reaches the satellite receiver.  If you like to install two satellite receivers, you must use a dual LNB.  A dual LNBF installs on your satellite dish and two cables are ran from the LNB to your digital FTA receivers.  Check out the diagram below:

Dual LNB Diagram FTA Ku DSS FSS Receivers

Q: I want to install satellite on 3 or 4 satellite receivers.  What should I do?

A: There are two different ways of installing satellite on three or four receivers.  Option #1 below is recommended over option #2.  It may cost a few extra dollars for option #1, but the two parts work independently and can be modified in any way.

     1.  You can use a 3X4 multi switch along with a dual LNB.  You MUST use a dual LNBF when you install a multi switch.  Otherwise, you will only receive channels that broadcast on Vertical or Horizontal transponders.  See below for the 3X4 multi switch installation. (Check out our multi-switch section) If you are NOT using an antenna or cable source, you do not need to use the diplexers shown in the diagram.

3X4 Multi Switch Diagram

     2.  You can use a quad LNBF.  Basically, same as dual LNB installation above, but not recommended.  Option #1 above is much more recommended.

Q: I want to install my satellite system on two TV's, but don't want to have a second receiver.  What should I do?

A: You can use a splitter.  Yes, you can use a splitter on a satellite system ONLY when the satellite signal has gotten processed and decompressed through the satellite receiver.  See diagram below.  Take into consideration that when you run any signal through a splitter, you will have some loss.  You will also only be able to watch the same programming as the master (1st) TV.

Q: Does this receiver accept access cards?

A: No.  A Free To Air receiver does not need to have the function of accepting access cards because the need for an access card is to subscribe to channels that are scrambled or encrypted.
